First Impressions

Today marked day one of a new adventure in my career.  I traded menswear for home decor and became a business analyst with Buyers Support Group.  Putting my analytical skills to use and testing my attention to detail.

Excitement and nerves hit me hard last night as I was mentally preparing for my big day.  Planning the first outfit can help calm the nerves – so that is what I did.  What to wear in order to make a great first impression?  Depends on the industry – but in the retail industry it feels like it is getting increasingly more casual.  But I continue to have the “old school” mentality that you should “dress for the job you want”.  So I planned a business professional outfit with a flare of my own personal style.

Jeans are okay at my new office – but I chose dress pants for the first day.  Added a light sweater and some pointy toed sling back heels and a printed scarf to finish the look.  Take a peek and feel free to “steal the look” for your first day.  I got positive compliments in the office.

  1. Good advice…my husband and I both feel a person’s wardrobe is a large component to people’s perspective on your abilities…also, when you feel good about what youre wearing, the confidence shows in all areas…
